Asiatica Film Mediale In Competition : Ned's Project (Philippines)

Cine Filipino 2016 Best Film, Ned's Project, a film by Lem Lorca has been announced to compete at this year's Asiatica Film Mediale in Rome, Italy. The 17-year old festival dedicated entirely to Asian Cinema will feature 40 features from 20 different countries including  Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Philippines, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Turkey and Vietnam. This will also serve as the film's International Premiere.

Ned's Project is set in Sampaloc, Quezon following the story of Henedina/Ned, a lesbian tattoo artist who is obsessed with bearing a child no matter what it takes. Multi-award winning independent actress Angeli Bayani took the Best Actress award for portraying Ned.

DLIST gave the film a glowing review early this year, "...technically, Ned’s Project is Lem Lorca’s most polished film. There is a little fluffiness into the core, but for a dramedy, this little lesbian-themed feature has accomplished more than what it seemingly aimed for."

Ned's Project (Cine Filipino Best Film) will be competing against Abbas Amini's Valderamma (Iran, Berlinale 2016), Chang Tso-chi's Thanato's Drunk (Taiwan, Berlinale 2016), Chang Jiang Tu's Crosscurrent (China, Berlinale 2016), Barış Kaya and Soner Caner's Rauf (Turkey, Berlinale 2016), Emir Baigazin's The Wounded Angel (Kazakhstan, Berlinale 2016), Akihiko Shiota's Wet Woman in Wind (Japan, Locarno 2016), and E J-yong's Bacchus Lady (South Korea, Berlinale 2016).

Other Filipino films that made it to Asiatica Film Mediale in the past years were Richard Legaspi's Manenaya (2011), Arnel Mardoquio's Sheika (2010), and Brillante Mendoza's Taklub (2015).
