A night at the Penshoppe Fan Conference 2012 featuring Zac Efron

It was a memorable night for the thousands of Zac Efron fans that made it to the latest Penshoppe All Star Fan Conference held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena last night, September 29, 2012.

The event started a little late but nobody really cared. From the moment that the countdown began, most of the fans were already on their feet, screaming their lungs out for the Hollywood heartthrob who is perhaps the biggest foreign endorser ever employed for a local brand.

The show began with an AVP of the stellar line-up of Penshoppe All Stars that includes Thai Superstar Mario Maurer (Love of Siam) and popular TV actors Ian Somerhalder (Vampire Diaries), Ed Westwick and Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl). This generated the neverending yells of "OMG" and "He is so gwapo!" from the sea of tweens that dominated the audience in the Arena. People were especially excited when Penshoppe played a message from Mario Maurer who will soon be back in the country to promote a local film with Star Cinema called Suddenly It's Magic

High School Musical and the UP Cheerleading Squad

2012 UAAP Cheerleading Champions, UP Fighting Maroons, performed a medley of songs from Zac Efron's first big break, High School Musical. At the end of the medley, Zac emerged for the first time bringing the house down with the loudest cheers I have ever heard. Of course the loudest may have come from fellow blogger Ely, who was so excited to see Zac, he had a twinkle in his eyes the entire night.

It sure is hot in here

Considering that the event's media partner was GMA-7, it was a pleasant surprise to see Boy Abunda from the rival network hold an interview with Zac onstage. During his introduction, Boy quips, "...he is one of the best looking people I have ever seen." I guess he was a little starstruck as well because he actually faltered a little bit when Zac took off his jacket in front of him. Zac then ran to the end of the catwalk, threw the jacket at the audience and said, "It's hot in here," when he came back to his seat.

Will you be my first kiss?

Okay this kid better stay out of Ely's way as he intends to inflict bodily harm out of sheer jealousy. Kidding aside, this girl sure had an epic evening. She was randomly picked from the audience to give Zac a message. She instead boldly asked, "Will you by my first kiss?" Much to the delight of the audience, and the horror of the security team, Zac complied.

I love the Philippines

During his interview, Zac shared how he feels so at home in the Philippines, how he likes balut and how he met his "first Filipina girlfriend," Vanessa Hudgens. Judging from the packed venue and the satisfied faces of the crowd, I say Zac managed to win the hearts of the Filipino audience last night. Thanks to the combined efforts of Penshoppe and PR Asia Worldwide's Joyce Ramirez, we would sure be looking forward to what they have to offer next.

*Some photos are a bit blurry as we were seated at the lower box a few feet away with no zoom lens at hand. It was a great experience nonetheless. The event was very organized. I can only speak for our group but we made it in spending less than 15 minutes outside the Arena to get our tickets. Congratulations to the Penshoppe Team.

Celebrity-worship, especially given to some foreign celebrity is cringe inducing. The whole thing is so third-world.

  2. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!! Am so jealous talaga, Dale! Hahaha! Salamat sa paghila sa akin, hehe. :)

    Next target: MARIO MAURER

  3. So when Americans cheer for a local talent like Charice, that is also cringe inducing and they are being third world-y?

When American tweens worship Bieber and One Direction, that is 3rd-world-y? If you are going to be bitter at least do not impose class distinctions on how people act because the reaction of people in Arena is pretty universal as far as I can tell.

  4. Gwapo talaga ni Zac Efron. In fairness, mukhang puno ang Araneta Coliseum :)

  5. MOA Arena actually. And yeah, puno naman sya except for seats na sa likod na halos ng stage :)

I understand what the poster is saying. For talents who gives concerts and those who appreciate these concerts; these are totally different from someone who basically does nothing other than show up and basically does nothing.

Nice pictures. Shared your post about the Fan Con in my blog. Thanks.

  9. To this: I understand what the poster is saying. For talents who gives concerts and those who appreciate these concerts; these are totally different from someone who basically does nothing other than show up and basically does nothing.

    - You seem to be forgetting that before this particular endorser showed up and did nothing, he has an impressive line-up of movies/musicals. So imagine this. Lea Salonga gets invited to an event in the US. She doesn't perform nor do anything, just show up to endorse something. People scramble to meet her and get wild in the venue.

Now they would not be going wild because she performed then and there. They would be going wild because they have an image of her past performances. Now how is this any different?
