Blog Forward for Justice

Arrogantly yelling "Hindi nila kami kilala! Sabihin mo nga sa kanila kung sino ako!" is the now infamous Mayor Nasser Pangandaman, Jr., Mayor of Masiu City, Lanao del Sur who beat up a defenseless 56-year old man and his 14-year old son. Ganging up on the poor duo is the mayor's father, Secretary Nasser Pangandaman of the Department of Agrarian Reform and their four armed bodyguards.
"My younger brother pleads to the mayor to please stop it. To not hurt my dad. To just stop. His words still ring through my head..."Sorry na po, sorry na po...tama na...tama na po..." With his hands in front of his chest in a praying position. PLEADING. The mayor socks him in the face. My brother defended himself. My dad is still on the ground getting clobbered. My brother is the same way. I try to stop the fight, but all I can do is stop one person. There were 4 or 5 of them attacking now." - Bambee dela Paz (daughter of the victim)
The incident, blogged by the victim's daughter, took place on December 26th, 2008 at the Valley Golf and Country Club, Antipolo City. It is reminiscent of post Martial law movies of Lino Brocka that details abuses by politicians and their gunned goons.
"Their group comes to the clubhouse, sees my brother. Once again my brother pleads, says sorry, and is crying. He was CRYING, for crissakes. But no. The relentless mayor still punches him in the face, and then sees my dad and goes after my dad again. Him and his friend pull my dad to the ground, pulls at his feet, and steps on him like he's dirt."
"The general manager of Valley Golf would not give us the names of the men who made my brother's ear bleed. It took him an hour. Maybe even more than that. He seemed to not want to help us. Because, we were against the SECRETARY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRARIAN REFORM and the MAYOR OF MASIU CITY, LANAO DEL SUR. They were all scared."
In our country where blatant guilt is not a guarantee for a conviction and people in power get away with heinous acts because of influence and money, these people need all the help they can get to obtain justice. As these people will argue innocence until proven guilty and will contest the accuracy of who attacked whom first, an inexcusable fact remains that these politicians had armed guards with them and they attacked a 14-year old kid. Let us hope that swift justice will be served to these shameless criminals hiding behind the desk of power entrusted by the public.

Let us not forget that while our history is marred with politicians that exerted influence to cover up their wrongdoings, we are also a country that has ousted two corrupt presidents by marching the streets of Edsa arm-in-arm. Let us not turn a blind eye and do our part so people like Mayor Nasser Pangandaman, Jr. will not be emulated by other people in power who think that having a position in public office or money and influence is a license to abuse and trample the rights of others.

Updates from ABS-CBN.COM 1.05.2009

  1. I agree! The mere fact that they were able to hurt a 56-year old man and a 14-year old kid mean that they can do more inhumane activities! They're position got into their heads so much.

  2. I was watching the TV the other day. He was asking the bloggers to stop publishing libelous articles and accusations against his son. The nerve! I'm happy that dela Paz got Atty. Fortun! He's really good! :)

  3. I was actually surprised and relieved when I saw that they got Fortun. At least that means that they have the capacity to fight back and that is probably scaring the Pangandamans right now.

As far as blogging is concerned, I believe that this is one venue that they cannot contain and bribe to shut-up. And given that I have a first hand experience at how futile our legal system can be even when you have all the evidence glaring at your side, every bit of campaign to out the truth helps.

  4. I totally agree! I am so into this news.. I just hate the Pangandamans after what they did to Bambee's family..It was so traumatic for her brother and their membership in that golf club was even recommended for 6-months suspension.. too bad for the Dela Paz's family..
