A Reimagining of Romeo and Juliet opens Dulaang UP's 40th season
Dulaang UP opens its 40th season with a multimedia hallucination of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Transforming Verona into a concrete jungle, #R </ 3 J is set in its version of Metro Manila that is teeming with corruption, revolt, advertisements, sex, social media and condominium units. This theatrical project seeks to dramatize, through a pastiche of movement, music, intertext, video and design, the postmodern tragedy of our generation.
“It’s going to be a pastiche of different art forms, a fusion of music, movement, dance, inter-text, video, etc.,” said director Dexter Santos. “It’s not really a musical, and not a dance or ballet, either; but it will have all these different things.”
#R </ 3 J is directed by Dexter M. Santos (Ang Nawalang Kapatid, Orosman and Zafira). Music Design is by Krina Cayabyab, Adaptation by Guelan Varela-Luarca. It will run from August 26 – September 13, 2015, Wed - Fri 7 PM; Sat & Sun 10AM, 3PM and 8PM at Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater, UP Diliman. Tickets are priced at Php500.
Note: This Production contains materials and scenes that are not suitable for audiences under 16 years of age.
