Cinemalaya 2015: What films will be shown this year? (EXCLUSIVE) Who made it for next year?

As announced earlier, there will be no New Breed feature length films competing for this year’s edition of Cinemalaya. Only 10 new short films will be up for the Balanghai Awards. The full length film competition will resume next year, although the 10 finalists have already been notified and will be announced to the public during the awards night. DLIST has obtained the exclusive full list.

Of the 10 who made the final cut for Cinemalaya 2016, 8 spots have been given to former Cinemalaya finalists (2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014), Cinema One finalists (2011, 2013, 2015), and a Cinemanila finalist (2011). Two spots have been offered to co-directors, at least one pair are former Cinemalayans. There are two regional filmmakers on the list, one from Central Luzon and the other is from Central Visayas. Only one former finalist has been a Best Film winner (NETPAC), some of them have won other major awards.

Meanwhile, the ten finalists in the Short film Category for this year are: Apasol by Ryan Joseph Murcia, Gatilyo ng Baril by Glenmark Doromal, Kyel by Arvin Belarmino, Lisyun Qng Geografia by Petersen Vargas, Mater by Annemikami Pablo, Nenok by Rommel Tolentino, Papetir by Darwin Novicio, Pusong Bato by Martika Ramirez Escobar, Sanctissima by Kenneth Dagatan and Wawa by Angelie Mae Macalanda. The winner of the short film category will receive Php150,000 cash prize.

Cinemalaya has new sectional screenings this year to fill up the slots vacated by feature lengths, these are Indie Nation, Asian Section, and Premieres. The Digital Classics section will feature the digitally-restored and re-mastered versions of two Philippine classics: Marilou Diaz-Abaya’s Karnal (1983) and Lamberto Avellana’s A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino (1965).

Cinemalaya 2015 will be held on August 7-15 at Greenbelt and the CCP. Check out the screening schedule below.
