Here's some disappointing news. Arguably the most popular film festival, catered to Filipinos who value quality films, is not going to have a full-length competition this year.
In an official announcement posted in the Cinemalaya website, they said:
"Cinemalaya 2015 will be held on August 7-14 at the CCP and other festival venues to be announced. For this year, the competition will be held only in the short feature category."
"In 2016, the full length feature category will resume. There will be no subcategories for the full length feature category as in past Cinemalaya festivals. Ten finalists will be chosen for the full length feature category."
The Cinemalaya was reported to have financial woes after long-time patron Tonyboy Cojuangco stopped subsidizing the festival. It is currently being financed by the government through the DBM (Department of Budget and Management).
