I am using Star Cinema as a benchmark since they have mastered the perfect formula for coming up with box-office hits. I read somewhere that for Star Cinema to consider a film a legitimate hit, it has to breach the 100 Million mark because at that rate, they would have gotten a decent profit after all the investment and publicity made for a film. Well as of April 13th, Viva Films' Diary ng Panget has already earned P105,358,545 ($2,341,301 with exchange rate set at P45). This is a major achievement for a film that did not have as much publicity as any Star Cinema release, non-popular actors cast and was released in a limited number of cinemas. It was not even shown in the likes of ShangriLa, Greenbelt 3 and Rockwell (?) but it managed to crunch up the numbers anyway.
After the Holy Week mall break, I believe that Diary ng Panget is still showing in Manila and most provinces. It's nothing groundbreaking but it is pretty fun and worth the price of admission. They also have a soundtrack out that has some pretty cool and catchy songs so do try to check that out as well.
