Provocative stage play 'Closer' opens 10/4 at Whitespace

Way back when my life was a bit more tumultuous, the film adaptation of Closer was my relationship bible. Discussing love, trust and betrayal, Closer tears apart the very illusion of falling in love and shows a harsh and painful reality that most people go through.

Written by Patrick Marber, Closer was  first performed at the Royal National Theatre in London on May 1997 and in Broadway on January 1999. The film version, directed by Mike Nichols, came out in 2004 and featured Julia Roberts, Clive Owen, Jude Law and Natalie Portman.

This October, Red Turnip Theater bravely takes on this provocative material for Philippine staging. Directed by Ana Abad-Santos, the cast features Angel Aquino (her debut stage performance), Marc Abaya, Bart Guingona and Cris Villonco. The show will run from October 4 to 27 at Whitespace, 2314 Chino Roces Ave. Extension (formerly Pasong Tamo Ext.), Makati.

Here's hoping that the actors tapped by Red Turnip Theater and director Ana Abad-Santos will be able give justice to the gravity of this material. For tickets, you may call Ticketworld at 891-9999 or contact 215-0788 and 0917-537-8313.
