On Sotto-ing and Star Cinema's One More Try

Keeping up with the MMFF tradition of sotto-ing a foreign concept as previously exhibited by Enteng Kabisote's light sabers and the blatant use of creature effects lifted from Clash of the Titans in Panday 2, Star Cinema's One More Try seems to be joining the bandwagon.

A blogger friend previously broke the news that one of this year's most anticipated entries to the Metro Manila Film Festival is a possible rip-off of a 2007 Chinese film, In Love We Trust (See his full entry here). The movie is hardly unknown. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007 and at the Berlin Film Festival in 2008 where it won a Silver Bear for Best Screenplay.

Here is the synopsis and trailer of In Love We Trust:

The film follows a divorced couple living in modern-day China who discover that their daughter is dying of leukemia. Doctors inform them, however, that the child can only be saved with stem cells from an umbilical cord of a sibling.

Unfortunately both parents have since remarried. The film follows the emotional strain that this development brings to both marriages.

And here is the trailer of Star Cinema's One More Try.

I got a copy of In Love We Trust and plan to watch this prior to watching One More Try during the opening of the Metro Manila Film Festival on December 25th. I will include my observation of the similarities between the two films on the Bum-spot review.

I'd say that "One More Try" has better actors and the Chinese movie is so boring unless of course you understand Mandarin or Fukien. Why don't you watch all two movies and reserve your observations after?

Nakakahiya ang abs-cbn. Pero mas nakakahiya sa mmff di man lang na detect. MMFF is supposed to showcase pinoys best. I guest One More Try is pinoy's best effort in copying. Na sottomized ang In Love We Trust hek hek hek Dapat tanggalan ng award ang one more try and give the award sa next best picture.
