Repertory Philippines 2013 line-up to include The Graduate

As of posting time, Repertory Philippines announces its line-up of shows for 2013 and among them is my personal favorite, The Graduate. I wasn't able to attend the launch but I was certainly woken up from excitement upon hearing of the inclusion of this cinema classic.

Film lovers of course know this to be the movie that launched the career of the very young Dustin Hoffman. It is also the movie that immortalized Anne Bancroft as the iconic Mrs. Robinson and one that introduced me to the unforgettable songs of Simon and Garfunkel. It is arguably the best work of director Mike Nichols who also directed Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, The Birdcage and the dark relationship drama (another personal favorite), Closer.

Beyond that, film students know this movie by heart as it has been dissected and studied for its symbology.

In the local stage adaptation, Mrs.Robinson will be played by Philippine Cinema icon, Cherie Gil Pinky Marquez while Dustin Hoffman's Benjamin Braddock will be played by Reb Atadero (Bare, The Woman in Black). I am not sure if they will be using the songs of Simon and Garfunkel but it would be such a treat if they did.

Repertory Philippines 2013 line-up also includes The Producers, No Way to Treat a Lady, Boeing Boeing and Alice in Wonderland.
