Gay men "must be put to death" - Manny Pacquiao (?)

If you think being called a "lie from the devil" is bad, bible-toting Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, in a recent interview with the National Conservative Examiner, quoted Leviticus 20:13: "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." "It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah of Old," he added. This is in contradiction to US President Obama's recent show of support for marriage equality.

Pacquiao, who is known to be a playboy and a gambler, has developed an obsession with the bible following reports that his wife filed for divorce on the eve of his fight against Juan Marquez on November last year. Source

I have always said that Pacquiao has gotten one too many hits on the head. Then again, people that are more educated have taken the same stance in support of the church and promote a seemingly hateful God

As I have never been a fan of Pacquiao nor boxing, and I have never thought that he deserves a place in Philippine politics, this level of ignorance does not really disappoint me. It is not even surprising. I just hope that people can distinguish his being #4 in Forbes list of most influential athletes as a sports distinction and that his hateful stand against gay people and women will not rub off to the people who look up to him.

Update:

Pacquiao has denied saying “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.” Author owns up to quote. - Scribe owns up to Pacquiao’s ‘anti-gay remark’

These parts of the article were not contested:

Pacquiao continues: "God only expects man and woman to be together and to be legally married, only if they so are in love with each other."
"It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah of Old." Pacquiao believes same-sex marriage is an abomination and its advancement should be stopped starting from the high offices of  the U.S. to block possible legalization.

Pacquiao's scheduled appearance on “Extra” was cancelled, according to LA Weekly. This is what they tweeted: "@TheGroveLA Boxer Manny Pacquiao is not welcome @TheGroveLA. @TheGroveLA is a gathering place for all Angelenos, not a place for intolerance." (- to this I say thank you.)
*****
Rick Jacobs, the founder and chairman of equality movement Courage Campaign, told LA Weekly that Pacquiao’s comments will have an impact on his endorsements and sponsors in the United States.

“I do think that American sponsors are going to have to look very carefully about whether they can continue to pour money into his apparently empty soul,” Jacobs said.

Finally, whenever confronted by this issue on Marriage Equality, I always look back on these words by Kieth Olberman. Please watch.

"In a time of impermanence and fly-by-night relationships, these people over here want the same chance at permanence and happiness that is your option. They don't want to deny you yours. They don't want to take anything away from you. They want what you want -- a chance to be a little less alone in the world."

Just because he bashed Gay people doesn't give any of us the right to point out Pacquiao's mistakes. Demonyo lang gumagawa ng pagsasabi ng mga kasalanan at karumihan ng tao. So pag pinatulan mo ang pinagsasasabi ni Pacquiao, what makes you any different from what he had just done? Hayaan niyong si Lord ang gumanti, in silence. Fi-feature niyo pa ung ganito, parang tanga naman kayo. Onting utak my gay friends.

  2. Manny Pacquiao is #4 in Forbes list of most influential athletes in THE WORLD. That tells us of the level of influence that the guy has. What he did is irresponsible to day the least. And considering that he will most definitely affect the thinking of the hordes of unthinking masses, should be corrected every chance we get. It is a responsibility of anyone that wants to promote equality.

You don't just support a celebrity just because he's good regardless if he is representing the country. You support him because he stands for something that you believe in or something that you can be proud of.

Well I do agree with the first comment here. We have no right to point out Manny's wrong doings din. Parang ung sa Bible, sabi ni Jesus sa adulterous woman, let those who have not sinned cast the first stone... in context with that, bashing Manny in return through this blog post is of no sense nga naman. Mr. blogger, you could have just featured what he said, di na yung mga past sins/wrong doings niya... tama nga si Anonymous na unang nagcomment (i wish he was brave enough not to be anonymous din, LOL), gawain ng demonyo ung nangrere-state ng mga kasalanan sa buhay ng isang tao.

Since Manny is what he think he is, religious, I'm sure God has His own way on dealing with this issue. It's not our job anymore. Wag niyo pangunahan si God. His timing is always perfect ;)

    God Bless you, Manny.

Everyday, there are teens that struggle within themselves thinking that their entire being is wrong. Then you see someone like Pacquiao that you may even look up to proclaiming that what you are is against what God intended.

I don't think I have to spell out why bigoted comments like this has to be corrected.

  9. And if you read the post above, I merely stated a fact that Pacquiao was a known playboy and a gambler before his recent obsession with the bible. That is not bashing nor name calling. That is/was/has forever been subject of national and international news.

Infairness sa dalawang anonymous na yan, very clear, well-supported ang sinasabi, point taken. And yes sir Dale, it's not bashing or name calling nga naman. Pero kuya hindi siya forever subject hah, just to correct you on that. Having worked for Summit media and Manila Bulletin ingat ka sa ganyang statement. Wag na iremind ang madlang people about Pacquiao's wrong doings through blog posts nga naman kasi given na siya, dati pa. O, sign the petition nung sa NIKE na! GO GO GO mga friends!

Just to remind you all about Manny Pacquio, remember that he only became famous and influencial because of Boxing and thus become wealthy. But he remains the same person as he is...never finish school and therefore short of being educated, he doesnt use his intelligence (if there is any) and just follow the instinct of a typical non-educated man. There's a big difference between being intelligent and being smart, and Manny doesnt have both. Manny just happens to just have Money.

  15. What is irrefutable is that there absolutely seems to be a ""gay agenda." If you accept my premise, you might want to know what that agenda is? It would appear to be general acceptance and the patina of normalcy. For years the American Psychological Association had classified homosexuality as an illness.

    ReplyDelete
  16. President Obama is firmly committed to the homosexual agenda and recent promises made to the LBGT and others have caused some in the conservative movement and the evangelical and Pentecostal churches to shudder. It is also clear that the church's concerns have little bearing on the President's position to throw the doors open for the "gay agenda by closing the steel doors around those who make so much as a whimper against the gays. Signing the untested and highly suspect Matthew Shepard act is the latest evidence of that.
