Formal statement of Vice Gov. Mark Leviste re Batangas sign idea

Good morning! A lot has been said about the idea of putting-up a Batangas sign in Taal Volcano island.

Yesterday, we witnessed the good, the bad & the ugly, and to the best of our ability, we patiently & objectively replied/answered queries. As such, I would like to clarify and reiterate the following facts:

1. The idea is ONLY PART of the holistic tourism development plan for Taal lake & volcano which actually includes the idea of having floating restaurants, to promote the area for outdoor adventure, etc.

2. The IDEA is still being STUDIED (PINAGAARALAN PA po) that's why we are conducting research and consultation with various stakeholders.

3. NOTHING is final yet, even the photo on Inquirer (yesterday) is not the official perspective.

4. Gov. Vilma was UNAWARE of the interview and article that came-out on the Inquirer yesterday, therefore, it's UNFAIR to judge and criticize the Governor with regards to the issue. Gov.Vi always means well and she'll do what's best for the Province. It was I who was interviewed by the correspondent. That is why, if anyone has questions or suggestions, they can reach me and address it to the Provincial Board of Batangas since our Board is conducting various hearings/inquiries in aid of legislation at magagamit po namin ang lahat ng inpormasyon ukol sa Batangas sign.

5. Neither do we intend to compete nor challenge Tagaytay City. Rather, we can compliment each other.

6. We are saddened that the idea was magnified and some people over-reacted if not maliciously responded to the issue considering that the idea is JUST IN THE PIPELINE (among others).

7. We invited different government agencies during our 1st hearing, brought the idea to various social network sites and entertained the press simply because we want to show our sincerity, seriousness, transparency and accessibleness on the idea and the people--I hope they realize that there is a process and manner for both implementation (of projects) and grievances (if any).

8. I actually expected to see mixed-opinions on the idea, but I hope our kababayans will remain matured, responsible and objective with their comments. We appreciate their their participation and we will always welcome their OBJECTIVE insights...trabaho lang, walang personalan po.

9. I thought that the "Ba-'tanga'-s" image on today's (Oct.21) issue of the Inquirer (from a netizen) was unnecessary. Kung hindi talaga maiiwasan, sana ginamit nalang din yung lumang photo (yesterday's PDI issue).

Lastly, the overwhelming response only proves to show that Batangas is indeed beautiful and it is a popular & important tourist destination. Rest assured that your Recto-Leviste administration will ONLY DO WHAT'S BEST FOR THE GENERAL WELFARE OF OUR PEOPLE.Beautiful Batangas: it's all here, it's so near!I remain. - from the official fan page of Vice Gov. Mark Leviste
