DISQUS SHORTNAME

Titus Andronicus

Repost for Jude Cartalaba

If you are a fan of gory and violent films, perhaps Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (DUP)’s adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus and had its own title: Tinarantadong Asintado. Opened on September 14 and will run till October 2.

Given how gruesome Shakespeare has depicted the fate of the characters in the original piece, Tuzqs Rutaquio is successful in bringing a more Filipino tone for this classical piece of literature.

Bembol Roco is at his best as Ricardo Muñoz the hitman gone madman. The appearance of Eula Valdes gives more color to a political-inspired production based on the Filipino translation of Layeta Bucoy.

Some of the many interesting personalities to watch out for in this DUP offering are Mailes Kanapi, Paolo O’ Hara, Paulo Cabañero, Cris Pasturan, Arnold Reyes, JR Macanas, Nicco Manalo, Olive Nieto, Rolando Inocencio, Skyzx Labastilla and television artist Mike Tan of GMA-7.
